BIOGRAPHY

Larry Simmons is a retired Air Force Photojournalist with over 20 years experience in photography. Currently, Larry is a Senior Instructor for the Department of Defense, at the Defense Information School in Fort Meade, MD. He is the Course Coordinator for both Visual Information Management and Combat Camera Leadership Courses. He provides instruction in the Public Affairs courses, including the Public Affairs Course for International Students. Combining his vast military experience and years of teaching courses, from Basic Still Photography to Public Affairs, Larry has the unique combination of skills to effectively blend Visual Information with Public Affairs to deliver the ideal product to meet any need. During Larry’s career in the military, he traveled the world recounting the Air Force history through the stories of the men and women who lived it. He worked Airman Magazine, the Air Force’s premier publication, as well as for Combat Camera and the Joint Hometown News service. Larry reported as a first responder to the 9/11 attacks on the Pentagon and was the first photographer allowed total access throughout the Pentagon after the attacks. His imagery was employed to brief the President of the United States, the Joint Chiefs of Staff and by media outlets throughout the world within two hours. His imagery was instrumental for damage assessment in the reconstruction of the Pentagon. Larry skills as a photojournalist were utilized on many deployments and exercises including Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Northern Watch, Cobra Gold and Mighty Guardian. As selected Photographer and Trainer for the 2009 Presidential Inauguration Team, he collected timeless imagery from both the opening ceremonies and inauguration that can be seen all over the world.
